Ward Campout

We came. We camped. We left at 11:30pm.

It was actually more preventative than anything else. Brooklyn fell asleep and slept until about 11pm. Peter was way too wired to fall asleep at all. The later it got, the more hyper Pete got. Scott and I looked at each other when Brooklyn woke up and both had images in our heads of walking away from the camp site at 3am with a fussy toddler (or two!), trying to quiet them down before waking up the entire crew. So we decided to pack up while people were still awake and making s'mores. We were only ten minutes from home. Sleeping in our own beds has never been such a good idea.

But I'm glad that we gave it a shot. The kids had a blast. Peter was sooo excited to go camping. He had so much fun with his friends, running and climbing around. Brooklyn had a blast crawling around in the grass. They kids were both fascinated by the fire. We need to get little camping chairs because we borrowed one that was tiny and adorable, and Peter loved it!

Peter kept saying, "I have a go get some ting from a tent."
"Is it gummy worms, Peter?"
"Yes. It IS gummy worms."
And he'd come back with one for each of us. Until we cut him off from the gummy worm bag.

It was pretty adorable to watch these kids roll around in the tent and do "snugglies" on the sleeping bags. Peter's tiny little sleeping bag was too cute to handle. It made me so excited to get more experience with toddler camping, because it will be so fun once it's not such a novelty that they can't fall asleep. Brooklyn slept in her poracrib. I was prepared for desert camping, where it is 100 degrees in the day but 30 degrees at night in the desert canyons. Not here! It was hot, muggy, 70 degrees, and sticky. Next time we'll skip the bags altogether.

I've never seen these two be better buddies than they were at the campout. It was fun to be with our friends from the ward, but it got me even more excited to go camping more often with just our little family. The gap in their age is getting narrower and narrower, and I know that they are going to be the best little buddies in a matter of months. It was so fun to watch them crawl around and explore together. I love their guts.
